Paul left Titus in Crete not only to appoint qualified men to serve as elder-shepherds in the churches but so that he “might set in order what remains.” As we read this letter we see that what needed to be addressed was in part the importance and necessity of sound teaching. Sound teaching was needed so that the Christians might live lives that conformed to this teaching and devote themselves to good works. Yet, there was another reason why the inculcating of sound teaching was urgent. There were false or heretical teachers seeking to lead the believers astray.
