While it was the Lord that required a half shekel be paid to ransom the souls of those in the census, this screamed for a greater fulfillment and that was the Lord's point. It is no mistake that the Lord Jesus Christ identifies himself as the ultimate ransom price. We read in Matthew 20:28: “even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
